Question: How can I get a copy of my baby’s NICU records?

Answer: Ask at the hospital’s medical records department.

Federal law states that patients (and their parents, for pediatric patients) must be able to see and have a copy of their medical records. To get a copy of your baby’s medical records, contact the medical records department of the hospital or doctor’s office where your baby was treated. You will have to pay a fee and wait for the records to be ready; the fee and wait time vary by state. If your baby was treated in more than one hospital or doctor, you will have to request records at each facility that treated your baby.
