November is the March of Dimes Prematurity Awareness Month, and 11-17-09 is Prematurity Awareness Day. Here at About Preemies, we’re celebrating by helping parents and parents-to-be learn more about prematurity and premature babies.

I work hard to make sure that About Preemies is a wonderful source of information about premature birth and preemies. But there’s a lot more information about prematurity on About! Here, I’ve compiled a list of links to other About.com sites for expectant moms and parents of premature babies.

Premature Labor
If you’re pregnant, then be sure to read these articles, by About.com’s guide to Pregnancy. She explains how moms-to-be can avoid premature birth, and helps pregnant women learn the signs and symptoms of premature labor.

Book Reviews
There are many books about having a premature baby. About.com’s guide to Special Children has read and reviewed several of them for her readers.

Book Review: Alex - The Fathering of a Preemie

Book Review: For the Love of Rachel

Breastfeeding a Premature Baby
Premature babies may not be strong enough to breastfeed well. About.com’s guide to Breastfeeding does a great job of helping parents through some of the common hurdles of breastfeeding a premature baby. Her article also contains information about breastfeeding a near-term baby who was only born a little bit early.

Premature Birth and Viability
How early is too early? About.com’s guide to Miscarriage looks at the earliest ages at which a premature baby can survive, including survival statistics for different gestational ages.

The Tiniest of Patients – Perinatal Hospice
It is a sad reality that many premature babies die very early, either from congenital conditions that caused their premature birth or from complications of prematurity. A perinatal hospice program can help parents of terminally ill infants to plan for and cope with their baby’s death.

Premature Baby Photo Gallery
About.com’s guide to Pediatrics put together this wonderful photo gallery, showcasing premature babies in the NICU and at home.

Premature Birth and Giftedness
Detecting signs of giftedness is tough in any child, but it can be even harder for parents of premature babies, since developmental milestones may not be met at the expected times. About.com’s guide to Gifted Children helps parents of premature babies determine whether their infants are gifted.

Caring For Premature Twins or Multiples
Multiples (twins, triplets, or more) are at a higher risk for premature birth than singleton pregnancies. About.com’s guide to Multiples helps parents of premature infants navigate the NICU and bond with their premature babies.
