About a month ago, the March of Dimes released a new survey entitled "SPEAKing About Preterm Birth." The study looks at conversations about premature birth between expectant moms and their healthcare providers. Although talking about risk factors for preterm birth early in a pregnancy can help prevent an early birth, only a few doctors and midwives talk to their patients about preterm birth.
I recently had the opportunity to interview Dr. Alan Fleischman, medical director for the March of Dimes, about this new survey. In the interview, he talks about why it's so important for expectant moms to talk with their providers about preterm birth and how doctors and midwives can help a mom reduce her chances of delivering early.
